What Reading Means To Me

August 24th, 2008

Ever since I was in Kindergarten I’ve LOVED to read. Library hour once a week was my favorite time of the school week in elementary school. I’d sit there the whole hour flipping through pages looking for what books I was going to read that week. I even had my mom write the Librarian a note giving permission for me to get books from the older age sections.

Reading has always relaxed me in a way nothing else can. Laying down on the couch curling up with a book and a Cider Jack is still the most relaxing thing I can do.

It’s better than watching a movie or TV because the stories come alive in your head, the stories, characters, all pictured in the way YOU see them. Characters can’t be ruined by preconcieved visuals such as in movies. Example: Snape from Harry Potter. In the book I LOVE HIM. He even seems like he’d be hot as hell. Yet in the movie they make him look all old and dirty.

Like Cetta said sometimes we end up comparing people we know to characters in specific series. Espcially from George R R Martin’s “A Song Of Ice and Fire”. But I don’t know if that’s normal or not..

In the same way when I’m reading a book the characters faces sometimes become those of people I know.

Anyway, Reading means a lot to me. It always has.

[...] reading means to Aimey: She said a lot of things that I didn’t say, how the characters come alive in your head. [...]

Hehe :p I actually have an old man crush on Alan Rickman (the actor who plays Snape). He has this dark, brooding sort of personality that I’m so attracted to…and his voice! *dies* I’m not ashamed to admit it…he’s a sexy old guy. ;) The long black hair and cape make him even more delicious. Have you seen the movie Perfume (highly recommended if you haven’t) he plays a great role in that one as well. Ok…enough chit chat about dirty old man crushes……on with the books…

Have you read Wicked or anything by Gregory MacGuire? I just finished both Wicked and Son of a Witch and am now on to Mirror Mirror. These are GREAT fantasy books (very dark as well). Wicked is nothing like the musical, there’s a great deal of politics, amazing inner dialogue and masterfully crafted characters. Pick them up if you haven’t yet! ;)

Snape was hot!!! I just didnt like the dirty hair. You know who my old man crush is? Bill Maher. LOL

I’ll definetly check out that movie, it sounds really good, I’ll pick up the books too. :)

If you like fantasy you HAVE to read a song of ice and fire. The series is completely amazing. All the books are super long but you get so into them you cant put them down anyway.

And each chapters written in a different POV of a different character. So say theres a war going on, you see it through the eyes of everyone. From children to royalty.

Thank you for commenting Courtney!!
